Teen daughter disowns mother in favor of cheating dad – years later she comes back begging
My life changed dramatically when I married a rich man who seemed like a blessing to my family. I shared on Reddit how he generously gave my parents expensive gifts, paid off my sister’s credit card debts, and even got my brother a high-paying job at a good company. My in-laws loved him for his generosity and support during hard times, even though he had been unfaithful to me.
The first time he cheated was right after I gave birth to our child, Kelly. I was vulnerable and thought about leaving him, but I turned to my family for advice. Despite their kind words, I struggled to decide and ultimately stayed in the marriage. I convinced myself that he cheated because I couldn’t be the best wife during my pregnancy.
Years later, when Kelly was around 12, he cheated again. This time, I was determined to get a divorce. My family and in-laws, however, were against it. They didn’t want a scandal that could ruin the family’s reputation. Reluctantly, I filed for divorce, but the custody battle over Kelly became brutal. My ex-husband’s legal team, along with my in-laws, had the upper hand.
I eventually lost custody of Kelly, but I received alimony and a reasonable settlement. Despite my best efforts to stay in touch with my daughter, my in-laws and my own parents painted me as the villain to Kelly. They portrayed me as unforgiving and unwilling to accept my ex-husband’s apologies. As a result, when Kelly became a teenager, she was thoroughly convinced that I was the bad guy.
During these tough times, I found comfort in my best friend, Tina. She offered unwavering support and companionship. Tina was my confidant, my rock, without whom I might not have persevered. Through the years, I tried to rekindle my relationship with Kelly. Even though I agreed to support her graduate school tuition, the conditions were tough. In exchange for my financial support, Kelly had to give up her position as my heir, as stated in my will.
However, life has a way of balancing things out. Kelly focused on rebuilding her life, pursuing a degree in accountancy, and securing a high-paying job. Meanwhile, Kelly’s dad (my ex-husband) faced a series of misfortunes.
He lost his job and got entangled in a lawsuit. He soon depleted his resources, including the money intended for Kelly’s college education.
With her newfound financial independence and growing understanding of life’s complexities, Kelly had a change of heart. She expressed a desire to reconnect with me.
I couldn’t help but wonder if her change of heart was motivated by her recent financial difficulties, especially after her tuition was no longer guaranteed.
While I agreed to pay for Kelly’s graduate school expenses, the stipulation required her to forfeit her inheritance status as indicated in my will. In my will, my main beneficiary was my goddaughter, Laura, who had been like a daughter to me over the years.
Unsurprisingly, this decision ignited a family controversy. Relatives are divided over whether I was right to prioritize Laura as my heir over my biological daughter, who seemed interested in reconnecting only after financial difficulties arose.
